Systems Engineering
Systems engineering is an interdisciplinary methodology allowing people to work with and solve complex multifaceted problems. Our systems engineers (SEs) have many years of experience and are technical experts in many areas of information technology.
Database DevelopmentOur team members are experienced with the creation, maintenance and optimization of relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, Apache Derby and MySQL. We understand all basic relational database concepts such as ACID, primary keys, foreign keys and normal form. We know how to relax various constraints in order to optimize real world performance. Our database developers can design or extend database schemas to support a wide number of applications. CE Science is also familiar with Object Oriented databases, like Objectivity. We know the strengths of an Object Oriented database in storing highly interconnected or graph-based data and can use this technology when appropriate. Finally, we are highly experienced with Columnar or NoSQL databases such as HBase and Cassandra. Our developers can design, maintain and extend these databases to support real world applications. We understand the power of eventual consistency and flexible columnar oriented schemas.

Software Application Development
Our engineers have extensive experience developing software. Whether individually or with teams, our people have worked as system architects, junior software developers and senior software engineers. We use a wide variety of software languages including Java, C/C++, Python and JavaScript. We write applications using a variety of integrated development environments (IDEs) such as Eclipse, VSCode, NetBeans, Xcode, Vim and Emacs. We have experience with a number of configuration management / version control tools such as ClearCase, Subversion and Git. Our engineers have developed applications including 3-tier architectures, distributed computing, high performance algorithms and web-based apps. We also have considerable experience with a number of different development styles, including waterfall, spiral and agile.
